first_imgThe North West Cancer Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry is marking its two-year anniversary this week. The centre is Northern Ireland’s second facility dedicated to providing cancer treatment and care for patients on both sides of the border.Since opening at the end of November 2016, The North West Cancer Centre, has treated over 900 patients and allowed people from north Donegal to receive their radiotherapy treatment more locally. 162 people from the Republic of Ireland have so far received radiotherapy at the centre.Services within the North West Cancer Centre are now fully operational across a number of tumour sites including prostate, breast, lung, bowel, bladder and head and neck and lymphoma. A number of palliative treatments are also being delivered locally, including the recent implementation of offering emergency radiotherapy treatments.Dr David Stewart, Lead Clinical Oncologist at the North West Cancer Centre said: “The centre is a true example of cross border partnership working and is a success story in the delivery of high quality, safe and effective cancer care for patients from both Northern Ireland and from the Republic of Ireland.“Radiotherapy is highly effective in improving cancer survival rates. The team at the North West Cancer Centre works closely with surgical and medical teams at the Trust and Letterkenny University Hospital to provide the best cancer care for patients. “Modern radiotherapy treatment needs fewer visits to hospital and many patients can continue working during the course of their treatment. To date patient and relative feedback regarding the centre has been very positive, with many patients speaking about the real benefit of receiving care so close to home.”The centre prides itself in the use of highly specialised equipment. Earlier this year the centre implemented the latest treatment imaging technology, including iterative cone-beam CT (iCBCT) and 4D cone-beam CT (4D-CBCT).The centre also uses advanced radiology imaging particularly MRI in the planning of radiotherapy treatments. Collectively these allow delivery of radiotherapy even more accurately to within millimetres curing more patients and producing fewer side effects. In addition to radiotherapy development, the North West Cancer Centre also continues to deliver advanced chemotherapy techniques. The Sperrin Suite, which provides day care treatment for oncology and haematology patients has also treated patients with the newest forms of targeted anti-cancer therapies, including immunotherapy.  These therapies can be more effective and have less associated side effects than some standard forms of chemotherapy. Western Trust Chief Executive Dr Anne Kilgallen and Altnagevlin Hospital staff recently shared a cake to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of the North West Cancer Centre.Over 900 patients treated at North West Cancer Centre in two years was last modified: December 6th, 2018 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Altnagevlin HospitalNorth West Cancer Centrelast_img read more

first_imgPrelaunched social RSS reader Assetbar calls itself the first application built on the company’s new “Media Participation Platform” and has a number of remarkable features already that you’ll want to check out if you can get in. (invite code below)The experienced team of entrepreneurial engineers behind the application says its goal is “to open the platform to other developers around the world so they can create new apps with features that wouldn’t be sane with traditional stacks.”In the mean time, the RSS reader has all kinds of social features that are a lot of fun. It offers inline commenting, quick reviews, notification of which of your friends has viewed an item first (if you, you “win!”) and a cool bookmarklet for sharing images off-site into your Assetbar stream. So far, it does move pretty fast, though there’s a limited number of people using the service so far.I’ve been following Assetbar so far via the red hot blogger Louis Gray, whose invite code I’ll rip off and repost here (it’s “2friendly”) in exchange for saying that if you haven’t subscribed to Louis’s blog yet, you really should. In addition to Gray’s close coverage of the app, you can also check out an official tour of Assetbar – which unfortunately is one of many examples of the team’s biggest need, a major User Experience overhaul. Part of the TOS required that I “not cry” about prelaunch limitations of the service, though, so I’ll leave it at saying this: I’m not about to use Assetbar in its current state but the concepts here are fascinating.ScalabilityScalability is probably the number one issue faced by the exploding world of web apps these days. When you take into account all the data portability by calls to other servers that go on in all the lifestreaming apps and variations thereof, it will be a wonder if web apps work at all in 18 months. The Assetbar site says the company is made up of folks from a previous enterprise venture called Redline Networks, which was the subject of a large acquisition by Juniper Networks in 2005. Redline was all about application scalability, so it seems the team is now aiming to bring the next level of scalability technology to the consumer market. Again, this social feed reader is just the first app they are building in house – the Assetbar site says look out for the API and contact them if you are interested in getting involved. There’s no contact info on the site but founder Israel L’Heureux’s email is available via WhoIs. From the site: We founded Redline Networks in 2000, where we introduced a single threaded event-driven web server design which provided such low latency and high scale that we productized it as a “next generation load balancer”. In addition to load balancing, our product also performed I/O offload, TCP connection management, HTTP Compression, SSL, HTTP security, logging, and more. Our “E|X 3250” product earned the 9.5 out of 10, the highest score among 229 enterprise products reviewed by InfoWorld Magazine’s Test Center during 2003.The site also includes links to five scalability related patents developed by the team and now owned by Jupiter. The point is, these guys are hot stuff. Joining the small crowd waiting in the shadows to slit Twitter’s throat is probably somewhere in their minds. As for the RSS reader, it’s cool in its formative stages. Scalability, sharing, time sensitive metadata, super simple reviews and off-site integration with my feed reader are all part of my “dream come true feed reader” vision. Better handling of OPML files, offline access and item storage, standards for exporting my attention data (RSS doesn’t count as an export option) and a mobile option are all important to me too, though, and Assetbar doesn’t offer any of that. It’s worth a good look none the less, so here’s some screenshots below of the primary page first and then the off-site asset sharing view after I clicked on the bookmarklet from a Flickr search results page. Enjoy. My favorite little feature, the offsite asset sharing bookmarklet in action. first_imgType in nslookup <name displayed>. In the above example it would read: Connection Issues Browse to the drivers and downloads section for the exact model (note that sometimes the model will differ based on possessing or not possessing vPro technology). The only other recourse is to develop an update yourself or manually update the settings by visiting the system. Formerly known as Web Admin for Windows, Real-Time System Manager provides a powerful set of functions for IT specialists. In part 5 of this article series we covered the main points for Real-Time Console Infrastructure troubleshooting. As a natural extension of RTCI, Real-Time System Manager troubleshooting is covered in this article as part 6. With an emphasis on credentials and connection methods, this article provides information to overcome the most common issues seen when using the Real-Time tab for direct, one-to-one computer interaction. Check the documentation for any new BIOS versions that include vPro to see if they’ve corrected this. In the Altiris Console browse to View > Solutions > Real-Time Console Infrastructure > Configuration > select Manage Credentials Profiles. Network Filtering In this example my system is in a workgroup and reported only the hostname as the FQDN, which DNS had no trouble resolving. If this fqdn is not reachable via DNS, we won’t be able to connect to the AMT functionality.NOTE: We use several methods, including IP address, for WMI. WMI functionality may show correctly when AMT is absent in this situation Redirection Invalid ParameterWhen initiating an IDER (IDE Redirect) session to an external source such as an .iso file, the following error appears in the console: SNMP community strings Contact your OEM if they have not and request a status! Invalid FQDNTo view what FQDN the Real-Time is using, use the ‘Hardware Management’ node in the RTSM tree. The following screenshot shows what AMT is using: Authentication IssuesAnother common issue concerns authentication to the system via the Real-Time tab. First, let me discuss the methods RTSM uses to authenticate to a target system. Can DNS resolve this address? If no, we’ll need to fix the issue in one of the following ways. Allow the following ports, based off your environment: Under the WMI tab also check the box as above and provide a user that has admin privileges to the target system. IDE Redirect (IDER) In one case we supplied only AMT credentials in the Profile which allowed it to authenticate to AMT while a multiple protocol authentication profile failed. Back at the main screen check the box under the ‘Default’ column until the green check-mark uses your new Profile. IntroductionReal-Time System Manager provides a powerful tool for directly connecting to a system agentlessly with functionality available through WMI and Intel AMT. This article covers the issues associated with general functions seen with both technologies but with emphasis on the AMT functions. The following sections cover areas of troubleshooting: IDE Redirect (IDER)IDE Redirect allows a system to be remotely booted to a file, drive, or virtual disc. There are a number of potential issues to be aware of when working with IDER in a vPro environment. The below items include well-known issues and their resolutions. Previously successfully used credentials from past RTSM sessions The number one reason this occurs is due to a firewall being engaged. Firewalls need to allow AMT traffic through. If a firewall is enabled, use the following details to resolve the AMT issue: Connection IssuesUnder the current architecture the FQDN is the primary method for connecting and authenticating to AMT on remote systems. If the FQDN the Real-Time tab is using does not resolve in DNS, then AMT connectivity and thus functionality will not be available. FQDN connectivity issues are the number one issues we see with RTSM connections to AMT. WMI digest or Domain account Once the tree loads, open the Real-Time System manager folder, open Administrative Tasks, and click on ‘Hardware Management’. Nslookup dellvpro Give the profile a name and then save it. All known good credentials used to connect via RTSM to a system 10.10.10.1 Dellvpro The other issue we’ve seen is where the system is simply unavailable for one reason or another. AMT is available if the system is off but still connected to the network, but WMI or if the system is unplugged from power or off the network RTSM obviously cannot function. Verify that the system is available if nothing resolves this issue. Once the page loads, if AMT is missing as an available technology, take note of the name displayed as in the screenshot above. Authentication MethodsRuntime Profile – The Runtime profile contains he following information: User-defined Profiles – Profiles can be created that specifically provide credentials for the four types of technologies: Manually entered credentials – When RTSM tries to connect, if the default profile set in the RTCI configuration fails to authenticate, the left-hand tree will still load but each node will prompt the user for credentials. A user can put in an AMT account, Domain user, or digest user that has rights on the target system. When authentication succeeds, these credentials are then stored in the Runtime Profile for the target system.center_img Check the collection you are launching Resource Explorer from. Sometimes the identity of the system is incorrect. For AMT you can launch RTSM from the Provisioned collections populated with the Resource Synchronization. Test to see if this new profile is successful. Note that you’ll need to launch IE fresh to use the new settings. Supply the admin user credentials set when the managed vPro systems were provisioned. AMT digest or Kerberos-authenticated user Go to Start, Run, type in cmd, and click OK. ASF digest or Domain account Power management operation failed.Redirection session start has failed. See logs for more details. Troubleshooting AuthenticationThe following method will help identify issues and offer ways to work-around and solutions. These have been compiled through experience when troubleshooting issues with failed authentication with RTSM. Unfortunately WMI has a known issue with the Windows firewall where the dynamic ports WMI uses after initiation will be blocked. It’s a bug in WMI that has been addressed in Vista. Previous Operating Systems do not have a resolution at this time. Check the firmware updates for a new BIOS. 16993 – For TLS-enabled, encrypted AMT traffic – If https is required for communication with AMT, this port will be used Under the Intel® AMT tab check the box ‘Enable this technology in the profile’. Log File Name: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs\a.logPriority: 2Date: 3/9/2007 2:51:05 PMTick Count: 10617218Host Name: <>Process: w3wp.exe (2436)Thread ID: 5412Module: AltirisNativeHelper.dllSource: RTCI.TraceDescription: RedirectionProvider::StartIDER – RedirectionProvider::StartIDER – IMR_IDEROpenTCPSession: IMR_RES_INVALID_PARAMETER 16994 – For a note, AMT provisioning uses this port for sending out the ‘hello’ packet during the configuration process – this will be used if you initiate a reprovision from RTSM Where does the green checkmark fall? This is the default profile that will be used when connecting via the Real-Time tab. FIX DNS and/or the Altiris record: If DNS can be fixed, this is the preferred method. The difficulty is finding out why the Altiris Agent reported the incorrect record. Once DNS is fixed, have the Altiris Agent run Basic Inventory. The table location we pull this out of for management in RTSM is Inv_AeX_AC_Location, column: . Use the ‘Manage’ node available in RTSM (see the below screenshot): By putting in the IP address of the system, we’ll use the IP to lookup the FQDN and not make any assumptions. !Manageshortcut.JPG! Note: If you use another product such as Dell or HP’s plug-ins to this tab, you’ll simply not have the ‘Real-Time System Manager’ node underneath Real-Time Consoles. The Notification Server log shows the following error: 16992 – For non-TLS encrypted traffic – if you are not using TLS this is the port that will be used for communication This is caused by Intel’s redirection library requiring a correct floppy device to initiate an IDER session (either floppy image or real removable device). Real-Time System Manager 6.2 can work around this. If you put floppy.img file into Program Files\Altiris\RTSM\UIData folder, then the issue will not occur. Real-Time unable to connectIf WMI and AMT functions are unavailable, you’ll get a message when you click on the Real-Time tab indicating that the functionality isn’t available. See the following screenshot: The Intel SCS AMT password sent to systems when provisioning occurs Create an inclusion in the firewall properties. Another options is to disable the firewall when you need to manage the system via RTSM. Create a new profile by clicking the blue + on the icon bar in the right-hand pane. IDER or SOL DisabledIn some instances Intel vPro systems are arriving from the OEM with IDER and SOL disabled in the BIOS. When disabled, neither of these functions work from any management engine, including RTSM. Correcting this oversight is not easy, especially if the OEMs do not offer a solution by a firmware or BIOS update. Use the following method to resolve the issue: Go to the Support site for the OEM for the systems. Open the Real-Time tab for the AMT system you are managing. If it is not, try entering credentials in manually when you hit the system under the Real-Time tab. See the screenshot below for the connection icon to switch between WMI and AMT authentication. If two show in this area, both technologies are available but not authenticated. !RTSMconnectiontype.jpg! Authentication Issues Update the Servers HOSTS or LMHOSTS files to contain the mapping to the invalid name. For example find the LMHOSTS file, edit it and add a line <IP ADDRESS> <FQDN>, as in this example: Use these steps to see the FQDN is the issue: ConclusionThis should account for the most common issues we’ve seen, and allow you to successfully use RTSM with AMT technology, avoiding those issues.last_img read more

first_imgAdChoices广告I love that Oklahoma State has gone all in on Emmanuel Ogbah as a modern-day superhero. Weston Shepherd actually compared him to a few superheros the other day. Ogbah has been unbelievable all season, and I’m glad he’s getting the attention and spotlight he deserves.“He was tired,” Mike Gundy said after the game last week. “I could see by looking in his eyes. He plays so hard and he’s had so many reps the last three weeks and then tonight. But he’s a force. There’s no questions that he’s a really, really good college football player. His leadership and his effort and his ability to make plays obviously gives us a chance to be a really good defense.” While you’re here, we’d like you to consider subscribing to Pistols Firing and becoming a PFB+ member. It’s a big ask from us to you, but it also comes with a load of benefits like ad-free browsing (ads stink!), access to our premium room in The Chamber and monthly giveaways. The other thing it does is help stabilize our business into the future. As it turns out, sending folks on the road to cover games and provide 24/7 Pokes coverage like the excellent article you just read costs money. Can we teach everybody to be like them? Yes, Wii can. A Rice research project recently funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) is making use of Nintendo’s popular video game technology to codify learning systems in ways that can be used in a range of human endeavors, from sports to surgery. Two Rice professors, Marcia O’Malley and Michael Byrne, are following up on O’Malley’s pioneering work using robots to treat stroke victims   with a study to map out how people learn physical tasks, with the ultimate goal of programming robots to teach in new ways. With the new NSF grant, O’Malley and Byrne will spend the next three years measuring the motions involved in tasks as mundane as playing paddleball and as complex as flying a fighter jet.To do that, having a motion-capture device at hand will be invaluable, said O’Malley. The device is called an accelerometer, but video game fans know it as a Wiimote, the handheld wand that serves as a wireless interface between player and screen.”It’s the only part of the system we really need,” said O’Malley, director of Rice’s Mechatronics and Haptic Interfaces Laboratory. Byrne said they’ll compare data from the Wiimote to that from a more expensive Vicon motion capture system to ”see how good the Wii really is.””We’re already grabbing motion data from the Wiimote,” said O’Malley, ”so soon we’ll be able to measure a range of motion and then turn it into a mathematical model.” For the researchers, here’s where the games really begin. Their ultimate plan is to bring together robotics and virtual reality in a way that lets people absorb information through repetition of the motor pathways.Think of hitting a tennis ball. Learning by trial-and-error is fine, but it would be much easier if a robotic sleeve could tell you exactly where that hitch in your swing is and gently prod you to hit the ball correctly.”Using the Wii will be a great way to recruit subjects,” said O’Malley. ”We can say, ‘Hey, kids, come play some games!”’Their research into what they term the “cognitive modeling of human motor skill acquisition” will focus on three types of learners. ”There are experts who learn at a slow, steady pace, but they get there,” she said. ”There are novices, who learn at a slow, steady pace, but sometimes they never get there. And then there are those who start off awful, but somewhere in the middle of training they suddenly ‘get it.’”What will be interesting is, can we get this last group to ‘get it’ and become people who learn very quickly by honing in on the right cues? And can we get these people who learn very quickly to improve even faster? We’re interested in how these groups of performers differentiate, and if there are inherent characteristics of movement and control policies that lead to expertise. To find out, we need data,” O’Malley said. Here’s where Byrne’s expertise comes in. An associate professor of psychology who specializes in computer-human interaction, he’ll analyze feedback on the range of motion used in performing a task and figure out precisely where the most efficient learning happens.”I work with the sort of mathematical computational theory of human performance that’s never been extended to the kind of dense motor activity we want to study,” said Byrne. ”There’s just not a lot of good data out there.”O’Malley and Byrne have been brainstorming about the kind of data they want to collect. ”We’re starting with a bunch of Wii games,” said Byrne. ”We find that some games have really good learning properties we can measure, and there are also some that people don’t seem to get a lot better at.”I can tell you I’m about as bad at Wii golf now as I was when I started playing it.”Video clips are available online at: http://www.rice.edu/nationalmedia/news2008-12-09-wii.shtml.last_img read more
