LG Business Solutions USA is entering the fitness equipment business with the introduction of a new 15-inch touch screen display designed for various exercise equipment. Featuring LG’s Pro:Idiom and Pro:Centric technologies, the displays can be customized with branded content and unique user interfaces. They are aimed at gyms, hotels, multi-unit living facilities, schools, corporate fitness centers and rec centers that want to customize the user experience. One example of this is what LG did for Octane Fitness. Octane wanted to develop a more user-friendly interface and eliminate the need for any external controls or buttons. The company leaned on LG Business Solutions USA, and specifically Gianni Restaino, vice president of engineering, to build a graphical interface that eliminates the need for channel up and down buttons, allowing users to quickly and easily navigate TV programming.“We chose to work with LG because their displays have class-leading picture quality and include IP (Internet protocol), digital and analog tuners to fit a variety of customer needs,” said Nick Schuster, senior program manager at Octane Fitness, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nautilus, Inc. “And they provide content protection through Pro:Idiom DRM (digital rights management) software that simplifies setup and operation by separating the TV functions from the fitness machines functions. The custom interface Gianni delivered, using LG’s Pro:Centric backbone, is exactly the type of modern improvement our clients and their customers demand.”Other digital display solutions may require connection with existing buttons on fitness machines, which can complicate installation for on-site techs and cause frustration for exercisers accustomed to modern touch-screen interfaces. Octane Fitness prioritized ease-of-use and overall user satisfaction, and LG’s add-on touch screen provides a vastly superior experience to machines with single displays that require users to alternate between fitness metrics and TV content while exercising, Schuster explained.See related LG Business Solutions Releases New 136-Inch Model All-in-One LED Display“Partnering with LG also provides peace of mind to our customers, because our machines with add-on displays are still operational even if the display has an issue,” he added. “We also recognize that LG is a leader in TV tuner technology, including over-the-air reception, which is a crucial feature for fitness clubs that don’t use cable TV services. We’ve listened to our customers and, in partnership with LG, developed a better solution that delivers improved performance, usability and reliability.”The LG 15LU766A is a 15-inch touch screen that offers high brightness and viewing from virtually any angle and protection from liquids and dust making it ideal for fitness environments. LG plans to expand its add-on fitness display line with a 22-inch model later this year.

View the full report, and Jackson’s preliminary report. Success fees and after-the-event (ATE) insurance premiums should no longer be paid by the losing party in civil court cases, a major report on civil litigation costs recommended today. Winning parties in personal injury cases should benefit from a 10% uplift in their damages award to compensate for such a move, Lord Justice Jackson recommended in his final report following a year-long review of civil litigation costs. Solicitors’ success fees should be capped at 25% of their clients’ damages award, he suggested. Lawyers should not be allowed to pay referral fees for personal injury cases, Jackson recommended, and warned that claims management companies and other intermediaries will see their income reduced if his proposals are implemented. Speaking this morning, Jackson said that his measures will not lead to a decrease in fee income for lawyers working on civil cases. ‘Solicitors and barristers will continue to earn a reasonable living,’ he said. ‘Competitive forces will have the effect [of allowing for] proper remuneration.’ Jackson said that the focus in personal injury cases had shifted away from the compensation of claimants, and instead onto the remuneration of lawyers and intermediaries. ‘The fact that such substantial referral fees are being paid illustrates that there is too much money swilling around in the personal injury compensation process,’ he said. ‘Under the current regime, personal injury solicitors are not competing on quality of service or charges to the client, but on who can pay the largest referral fee – so the beneficiaries of the regime are the referrers, like the claims management companies.’ He emphasised that he wants solicitors to compete on the basis of offering clients the lowest success fees, rather than relying on payouts from the losing party. Jackson did not recommend any major changes to big-ticket commercial litigation, and suggested that contingency legal aid funds and supplementary legal aid schemes might not be financially viable methods of funding litigation. Jackson made a number of other recommendations in his 557-page report, including: Jackson, Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, and Master of the Rolls Lord Neuberger all acknowledged that government legislation will be required to implement the substance of the proposals. ‘The time for discussion and debate is over, it is now time for action,’ Neuberger said. Law Society President, Robert Heslett, said: ‘We are very pleased that Lord Jackson has accepted the Law Society’s recommendation that the small claims personal injury limit remains as it is. We regard that as a litmus test of Lord Jackson’s commitment to enhancing access to justice through his review. ‘However, his report is a substantial and thorough body of work which demands detailed assessment. We are hopeful that the recommendations will provide for fairness between the wronged and the wrong-doer and that the proposition to abolish the recovery of success fees from the wrong-doer does not result in less, rather than more, access to justice.’ He added: ‘The Society hopes that the impact of the changes proposed under the review would remove personal injury work from the claims farm industry, which we agree adds no value to the process, only middle man’s costs. ‘Implementation of these recommendations must be based on fairness of the outcomes and how they serve the public interest, and we look forward to working with Lord Justice Jackson’s team. Given that much of the implementation work would require statutory change, we look forward to working with parliamentarians to ensure that the voice of the public interest is heard. ‘In the coming months, when the review is debated and discussed, we look forward to contributing positively to that debate.’
Introducing ‘qualified one-way costs shifting’, whereby claimants need only make a small contribution to a defendant’s costs in the event of an unsuccessful claim; Allowing lawyers to enter into contingency fee agreements in areas where they are not currently permitted, such as personal injury; Fixing costs for fast-track cases; Establishing a costs council to review annually fixed costs and lawyers’ hourly rates; Increasing general damages in libel cases by 10%; and A campaign to highlight the benefits of alternative dispute resolution.

By DINA ARÉVALOPort Isabel-South Padre Presseditor@portisabelsouthpadre.comA couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of staying cool while outdoors this summer. Heat stroke is no joking matter, and it’s important to know the signs of a person experiencing heat exhaustion or heat stroke. With the mercury continuing to hover in the triple digits throughout most of the Rio Grande Valley, I wanted to revisit the topic of heat safety, this time focusing on those who are a lot more vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat: our kids.I have a friend who recently gave birth to her first child and jokingly refers to her daughter as “Mini,” as in “Mini Me.” Though kids can look like pint-sized versions of their parents, their bodies are more fragile than an adult’s.A child can overheat 3 -5 times faster than an adult, according to information from kidsandcars.org. And some of the most vulnerable kids are those who are the least able to speak up for themselves when they’re in distress. According to Kids and Cars, 87 percent of children who have died as a result of being left in a vehicle were 3-years-old or younger. The summer of 2016 has been an especially hot one, and the heat wave that has been blanketing most of the country doesn’t look like it will let up any time soon. Already, 18 children have died as a result of heat stroke from being left in a vehicle. Sadly, the most recent death was of a 2-year-old baby from Temple. But there are things we can do to help avoid such a tragic fate. One simple thing parents can do is to make a habit of placing something important in their backseats, such as a phone or purse, so that they have to check the rear passenger space before leaving.Remember, too, that walking around with the sea breeze cooling things down doesn’t mean your kids are safe. Kids can become dehydrated faster than adults, so carry water or other drinks with you.One of my favorite family photos is of my parents and us kids spending a day at Gladys Porter Zoo. My dad, sister and brother are standing in front of the elephant enclosure squinting into the sun as my mom snaps the photo. I’m there, too: a chubby toddler fast asleep in a stroller. But what stands out in the photo is a large Thermos — decorated in 1970s style flowers — hanging from the stroller handles.I was too young to remember our trip to the zoo that day, but I can still say with near certainty what was in that Thermos. Knowing my mom and her penchant for preparedness, it was filled with ice cold Kool-Aid. She knew we kids would get hot and thirsty while walking from exhibit to exhibit beneath a scorching sun.And that Thermos made an appearance during many a family trip, as did my mom’s oversized handbags filled with sunscreen, napkins, bottles of water and snacks. That was mom: prepared for any eventuality.Keep your family safe this summer by staying prepared and establishing routines for when you’re out and about. Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading… RelatedKereta “Maiko” dengan Geisha Kembali Mengular Setelah Dua Tahun Vakum15/03/2020In “Darat”Makan dan Minum Gratis di Kereta India Bila Tak Diberi Tagihan03/09/2018In “Darat”Tergerus Zaman, Tradisi Bawa Bekal dan Berbagi Makanan di Kereta India Mulai Hilang08/03/2018In “Darat”

The National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report was released today. It drew no conclusions about the cause of the crash. FacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享A federal accident report on June’s fatal Ketchikan crash states that the plane was equipped with terrain technology. Instrument panels were removed from the wreckage by the NTSB and are part of a terrain-avoidance technology known as the Capstone program. That program generally provides GPS technology that allows pilots to see on cockpit displays concise information about terrain, other aircraft, and weather. The deHavilland DHC-3 Otter turboprop crashed June 25 on a steep cliff about 25 miles from Ketchikan, killing the pilot and eight cruise ship passengers who were on board.
